Changing Our Outlook

Let’s plan for the future. We’ll be more mature and smarter as time goes by. We will make better choices for everything because our outlook has changed. We learned so much already. We know our health and well being needs to be looked after. Our wardrobe and our craft skills are part of the life journey.

I want to be clear that this is not a religion or cult or the most important thing in life but we have purpose in any position we hold because we know what is needed and we know how to blend this in as part of our life. The subject is our eco-friendly attitude towards everything. It is just one of many attributes to ourselves. It’s needed and we need to make it a chore and task of comfort among the chaos that we live in.

Part of that is cutting out what is toxic to our health is going to help us get to that point. Think for a day about what it is that you like to make the most. I started off by hats. I went to fingerless mitts and baby clothes and socks. I did cowls and bags and almost everything that everyone else likes in our world. I don’t like blankets and stuffed animals that much even though I tried it. I am starting to understand wraps and shawls. They’re not that useless as I once thought. My favorite thing right now is tops and sweaters with straight needles. I like the thinner yarn, too. It’s just as easy to handle for me. What do I need minimally and what can I throw away. This is very stressful to think of throwing anything I own. It even stirs up anger in me, Do you want all my possessions to fit in a suitcase? It’s a dytopian nightmare to own nothing and be happy. Those minimalists on YouTube are rich with big houses and nothing in them. That’s not what I want or am looking for. Maybe a happy medium. A small clean, happy home with essential things that I own plus a few trinkets to make me smile. Don’t expect me to throw it all away. I’m pairing things down but throwing everything away is very stressful. Maybe a continual tiny clean up is what we need. Keep garbage away, refuse to keep anthing toxic in our stash and if you mentally can get through it, throw things away. Virtual hugs to anyone who has done this and found it as horrible as I did. All my acryic makes and acrylic yarn were like yarnie babies and it was hard to get rid of them. Hopefully, this will be an emotional blip that fades away in time.

I also want to share something that happened to me in June. My phone wasn’t working and my older son wanted me to figure out how to fix it on my own but I tried everything and it wasn’t working. Later in the month, my younger son let me borrow his old phone but I couldn’t remember the passwords to all my accounts. But for three weeks before that, I had gone analog with no internet. I had books and some patterns printed out. But I wanted more and all my saved PDF patterns. What an experience. I don’t know if people could survive that. I had actually traveled by car without a phone for emergencies. Everything seemed so differnt. Let me know if anything like that has ever happened to you and what should you do as a crafter to prepare for something like that?

That said, this leads me to the purpose of this post to start a trend. It’s the eco-friendly aspect, purpose and journey including our lifestyle and choices we make in knitting or crocheting. It’s no longer just a hobby for us. It’s part of supplying ourselves and others in clothing and accessories that reflect the person we want to be or become. The trend of our eco-friendly change is for the rest of our life. It is not just for this season or year even though I enjoy fashion trends and fashion history.

Before you check out from the length of this post, please think about what I said because you are probably already doing this. Follow me on X for free knitting and crochet patterns and for eco-friendly tips. As we constantly learn about our yarn craft and ourselves and our part of the eco-system we will eliminate the plastic and the toxic yarn and tools and we will replace it with something better and using less and it’s beneficial to everyone. You are the trend. We changing our outlook.
