What’s the goal for sustainable crafting?

Here are the things that are needed and wanted. Let’s try and go forward turning our goals into a reality.

  1. Use only organic, compostable fibers. This includes animal and plant fibers.

  2. Refuse all plastic fibers. We are done with Acrylic, Polyester and Nylon. We are done with the Nylon in our socks as well. Even 5% is too much even if it is to make the dye colorfast and the garment stronger or stretch more.

  3. Be happy with the natural colors or natural dyes even if we can’t go bright neon yellow anymore. We have involved from Play-Doh colors.

  4. Buy more locally. Eventually every state or country will become experts on at least one or more of these natural fibers.

  5. Buy less. We should have a capsule wardrobe that reflects us in color and style. It’s a plus that we will wear most of our clothes and accessories for years. Being seasonally trendy is not the fashion goal anymore.

  6. Our laundry detergent will be mild and we will be able to take care of what we have. We will love mending because we will turn it a creative and decorative process. We won’t feel guilty when we have to throw away items because they are non-toxic and compostable.

  7. The big industrial process will be downsized. The big warehouses and big factory businesses will be done with. This increases price but we are done with the slavery practices that the big industrial sized clothing industry brings. Think craftmanship and artisan groups where people can know their co-workers. These groups are small and include family businesses and solo workers.

  8. The big stores are coming to an end. Supermarkets, department store and warehouse shopping is over. We will go back to all smaller stores and shops such as boutiques. Local Yarn Stores will be more important than Walmart yarn.

  9. Packaging matters. No longer are we going to receive 10 packs wrapped in plastic. It’s going to be in non-toxic paper or cardboard boxes.

  10. We will limit our shopping to a shorter distance. Las Vegas, Nevada or the country of Mexico is actually closer to me than San Francisco. Stop shopping overseas. We need to fill those sources. There are so many opportunities. State and cities should encourage small, eco-friendly, craftsmanship businesses now that large sized companies are going out of business.

  11. Don’t feel like you are reversing back to caveman times. We are innovative, skillful and artistic humans. Before the industrial age we had many gadgets and items that do the same things as what we usually use now. We can use this time as a challenge to ween from toxic Chinese cheap imports especially plastic items.

I did not make as many points as I thought I would and maybe I will add more or make new posts. Our eco-friendly crafting goals are in sight and possible. Let’s get going!

Book Recommendation:

I don’t agree with everything she says or everything anyone believes in general. I don’t believe in man-made Climate Change and ‘diversity’ and ‘equity’ like people are brainwashed to believe but I can take many things from her research and use it for my own eco-friendly lifestyle, eco-friendly businesses, interests and our personal crafting journey. The end result is the same.

I am currently listening to the free audiobook version on our local library digital website.

Please check out my ECOJOYKNITS ‘X’ Social Media page for daily free knitting and crochet pattern links. Follow, like and share. (I was hesitant to open an account due to censorship, but if you keep it focused on yarn crafting it is a great place to share links and there are no worries.)
