No More Acrylic Yarn

Let us average girls start a new trend and go for it. Let’s completely stop buying Acrylic, Polyester and Nylon yarns forever. I have been thinking about this dilemma for years. I have pros and cons on this issue. I even look at acrylic yarn online thinking about what to get next. My main reason for getting it is that it is cheap and looks good. I can make a whole sweater in one colorway in any weight, using any pattern that I want even in new yarns that just came out and I can make something for less than $50 and in some cases, less than $20. But you know what, I would rather wait 1 or 2 years or not even make another sweater ever if it would keep microplastics and plastics out of my life. I am so sick of overseas companies and big American companies pushing Acrylic yarn on all the makers who just want to knit and crochet something nice and soft. All the advertising and the promotion going on is really thick in my world and I am not going to lie that it is beautiful and tempting. It would help me with moths eating up my socks and hats problem. I am experiencing bugs that I don’t even see eating the things that I made with wool. I have a good reason to switch to Acrylic and I don’t think it’s uncommon these days to want to be budget friendly. I am very budget concience.

But I also have health problems as I get older and 6 months ago I had my gall bladder taken out and I’ve been eating better and I am worried about my liver. I want to detox in everything. So yes, I am going to take the leap even eliminating recycled yarn from my choices. I don’t want to pressure anyone because just a month ago I was thinking recycled yarn is a good thing and in a way it is but we can change our minds and make new decisions and mine is to fully eliminate plastics from my yarn.

I still think Cotton is fabulous, but it is not that great on super cold days as a sweater or cardigan so I really want to try a cotton and wool blend yarn to see if that would be better for sweaters and cowls and hats and the usual things I like to make to keep me warm in the winter.

No more Acrylic yarn for me going forward. I’m going to tell everyone so they don’t gift me any and I will have to donate the yarn if it’s synthetic fiber. 😕

Let me know what you think.
